Before you begin

These letters are not product descriptions. They are letters, in the truest sense: I'm writing to you because I've learned things about salt that I can't keep to myself.

I am neither a geologist nor a chemist. I am someone who decided to work with only one material and who, by handling it every day, wanted to know what it really was. What I found astonished me, and not in the way I expected.

I imagined that science would debunk ancient rituals. The opposite happened. Every time I investigated why our grandmothers performed certain actions with salt, I found a physical property that proved them right. They couldn't name it. They had observed it perfectly.

So, in each letter, you will find both things together, without hierarchy: what the material says, and what humans have made of it. I will also tell you, on several occasions, what salt does not do — because a company that sells salt has a duty to be more honest than others on this subject.

They can be read in order or at random. One a week, if you want to make them last.
